S.M.A.R.T. Plan to Setting Nutrition and Fitness Goals.

 

When deciding on making positive changes to your health, one thing to consider is how to create a plan that is just for you. We are all different and have different health goals. One way to narrow down “your” plan is to use the SMART Plan

So what is a S.M.A.R.T Plan?

A plan that uses Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound  goals.

Specific

Specific = Decide and describe what the new change or habit will be.

Ask yourself What activity (s)  will I do? What types of vegetables will I add to my meals?

Measurable

Measurable = A way to hold yourself accountable for your new habit goals. Keep a journal or write out your progress as you go. Each time you do the new habit, write it down. Keeping track will keep your goals measurable. Ask yourself: How many days will I exercise? How many meals will I prepare at home?

Attainable

Attainable = Be reasonable when working on reaching your new habit goal. Take small steps to make the changes in your plan. Have the tools and resources that cater to your lifestyle.

Ask yourself: Does your plan work to your schedule? What is the best day to meal prep?

Realistic

Realistic = Set goals that you know you are able to achieve. Find activities that are enjoyable and will motivate the new habit goals. By setting realistic goals, they become easier to achieve without setbacks.

Ask yourself: Is the planned activities something I like to do? How can I make my goal a priority this week?

Time-Bound

Time-Bound = Knowing a set start date and deadline will help with not putting off the healthy goals. Write down in your tracking log when you will begin the plan, how often, and what activities that will be added to your lifestyle.

Ask yourself: How many days will I be working on my new goal? How often will I be making changes?

Getting started on a new healthy lifestyle can be challenging and confusing. Using the S.M.A.R.T. Plan will help create an outline of what your specific goals are and how to achieve them. When working on your plan take baby steps and set a deadline that is realistic to your lifestyle.
